AMES, Iowa--Senior Josh LaBlanc broke a 13-year old Fighting Sioux indoor track and field record today, setting a new standard in the 3,000 meters at the Bill Bergan Invite hosted by Iowa State.
Lablanc, a native of International Falls, Minn., recorded a time of 8:33.46 to take down the record previously set by Jim Mallory in 1998. Mallory held the record with a time of 8:35.30.
It is the first UND indoor record set since 2007, when Donovan Alexander set a new mark in the 60-meter dash.
Freshman Bryant Halvorson (Rugby, N.D.) enjoyed a seventh-place effort in the long jump, posting a leap of 6.73 meters.
Freshman Justen White placed 11th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.17 seconds.
Sophomore Tyler Rose (Brainerd, Minn.) recorded a time of 4:26.01 to finish 12th in the mile run.
UND also received a 12th-place finish from Chris Stoks (So., Virgina, Minn.) in the 400-meter dash, recording a time of 49.89.
