UND's Goertz picks up first GWC player of the week honor

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Following a career performance at South Dakota State (Nov. 20), North Dakota's junior linebacker Mitch Goertz picked up his first Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor.

A native of Rothschild, Wis., Goertz registered a career-best and game-high 13 tackles (six unassisted) to lead the Sioux in its 21-0 season-ending loss to the Jackrabbits.

He tallied 11 of his total tackles in the opening half and nearly picked off a pair of SDSU passes.

Previously, Goertz had landed a personal-best eight tackles at Northern Illinois (Sept. 11). He finished the season with 54 tackles (28 solo), 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.
