GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota women's swimming and diving team rank 20th among the 63 teams honored on the 2009 College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American team.
The Fighting Sioux rank higher than any of their competitors this season and are above all of their former North Central Conference affiliates. The Sioux are tied at No. 20 with Houston.
The College Swimming Coaches Association selects and honors teams as Scholar All-American teams twice a year, once after each semester (Fall/winter and Spring). To earn CSCAA Scholar All-American team honors, a swimming/diving team must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA for the semester.
Earning this year's highest CSCAA honor was Gardner-Webb. Akron, Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, George Washington, Purdue, Georgia, Bucknell, Georgia Southern, New Mexico State, Lafayette College, Evansville, and Wright State round out the institutions with the top 10 teamac GPAs.
A complete listing of schools in all divisions who have achieved this honor can be found on the CSCAA website (www.collegecoaches.org).
Both the women's and the men's swimming and diving teams will wrap up the 2009-10 season this week in Houston, Texas, at the Conference USA Championships. Competition begins on Feb. 24.
