VERMILLION, S.D.-North Dakota senior Creighton Schroyer (Pipestone, Minn.) successfully defended his conference shot put title today at the Great West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.
The Sioux placed fourth in the team standings.
Creighton, who charted a throw of 51-11.75 feet (15.84 meters), was one of four Sioux to place in the top nine in the shot put today. Travis Schultz (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.), Daniel Sjarpe (So., Lanesboro, Minn.) and Brandon Quesenberry (Jr., Billings, Mont.) finished sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.
Sioux senior Josh LaBlanc (International Falls, Minn.) placed second in the men's 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:36.25. LaBlanc also placed 14th in men's 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:10.81.
Three Sioux placed in the men's 800 meter run, highlighted by senior Kyle Rosseau (Eagan, Minn.), who placed third with a time of 1:56.98.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of seniors Matt Elbert (Grand Forks, N.D.), Mark Barclay (Grand Forks, N.D.), Kyle Rosseau (Eagan, Minn.) and freshman Chris Benson (Devils Lake, Minn.) placed fifth with a time of 3:29.54.
Senior Carl Hanson (Oak Creek, Wis.) placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87.
A pair of Sioux also placed and scored in the triple jump. Nick Wilkens (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) was sixth with a leap of 41-01.75 feet (12.54 meters), while Brandon Uehran (Sr., Brookings, S.D.) was seventh with a jump of 39-11.25 feet.
The Fighting Sioux will open the outdoor track season March 19-20 at the Arizona State Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
