Kristo named WCHA's top freshman by Inside College Hockey

GRAND FORKS, N.D.- University of North Dakota freshman forward Danny Kristo has been named Inside College Hockey's WCHA Freshman of the Year.

Kristo, a native of Eden Prairie, Minn., leads all WCHA freshmen in points (30), points per game (0.88), goals (13), power-play goals (eight) and power-play points. His eight power-play goals also lead the Fighting Sioux and rank first in the NCAA among freshmen.

Kristo enters the WCHA playoffs riding a career-best seven-game scoring streak and is bidding to become the first Sioux win the WCHA rookie scoring race since Brady Murray in 2003-04.

Earlier this season, Kristo helped lead the United States to a gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Kristo was drafted by Montreal in the second round (56th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Kristo and the Fighting Sioux will open the WCHA playoffs tonight against Minnesota at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
