EUGENE, Ore. --- The University of North Dakota softball team dropped a pair of games today to conclude action in Oregon and will now head south to California where they will play nine games over five days (March 16-20).
The Sioux opened today with a 4-1 setback to Boise State (4-13) before falling 12-0 to Oregon (17-5) at Howe Field.
Redshirt senior Casie Hanson (St. Peter, Minn.) continued to provide much of the offense for the Sioux with a 4-for-5 day from the plate improving her season batting average to .438.
NORTH DAKOTA 1, BOISE STATE 4
Boise State put together one good inning off Sioux starting pitcher Emma Gronseth (Forest Grove, Ore.) scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning which was enough as the Broncos held on for a 4-1 win.
The game went scoreless until the top of the third inning when Cami Bennett (Grants Pass, Ore.) singled to center field, Hanson followed with a bunt single and Toni Schutte (Port Alberni, British Columbia) singled to center field for the games first RBI.
Brittany Barcellos singled to lead off the fourth inning for the Broncos and was followed by Kathy Cox who homered to center field. Hanson nearly robbed the homer as she charged back on the play and was tipped off her glove over the fence. They would take advantage of three Sioux errors and one more hit to add another run in the inning to take a 3-1 lead and add an additional run in the sixth inning.
Gronseth pitched the complete game giving up all four runs (three earned) off eight hits, while the Sioux connected for five hits and walked twice off Allie Crump.
