Now it's starting to get fun.
The Sioux men's hockey team kept fans on the edge of their seats this weekend with a pair of come from behind victories against Michigan Tech.
Nobody left early because the Sioux fell behind early both nights, only to show a great deal of late-game resolve, especially on Saturday, trailing 2-0 at one point and 2-1 heading into the third period.
But never fear, the Sioux came through on both nights, displaying a pair of feeding frenzy, goal-scoring exhibitions that earned four more points and a fourth-place WCHA finish.
What did that set up?
A blockbuster Sioux-Gopher hockey weekend in Grand Forks for the second time this year will be on tap starting this Friday.
There is always a lot on the line when these two teams get together, but throw in the WCHA playoffs and you've got the recipe for a high-energy series.
The last two times these two teams met in the first round of the WCHA playoffs the Gophers swept the Sioux, but that was in The Cities.
These two teams haven't met in Grand Forks in the playoffs since 1987 and the Sioux swept the Gophers on the way to winning the NCAA title.
In women's basketball, Gene Roebuck and company put together a performance on Senior Day that was near perfect.
The Sioux pounded the No. 2 team in the Great West Conference, UT-Pan American, by 40 points, 101-61.
This was the same UTPA team that had just beaten USD in Vermillion two nights earlier. The only other league team to win in Vermillion this year is UND.
All four seniors scored in double figures in the Saturday afternoon pounding.
Scoring 100 points for a Coach Roebuck team is nothing new, but to do it against a program that has been at the Division I level for 30 years is something new.
Fighting Sioux fans showed up to support the squad as over 2,000 came out to the Betty to watch the spectacle.
UND led 49-31 at the half and didn't let up on the gas, shooting 56 percent from the floor in the second half while also hitting nine of 13 3-point field goals.
The Sioux are the No. 1 seed which means they are the only team to get a first-round bye. They don't play their first game in the GWC Tournament until Friday afternoon.
The men's basketball team suffered another gut-wrenching defeat Saturday, falling 71-68 to UT-Pan American.
The Sioux still earned the No. 3 seed and will take on new-found rival New Jersey Tech Wednesday night.
A great run in the GWC Tournament would sooth a lot of bruised body parts for the Sioux men's team.
The Sioux baseball team jumped into the deep end of the pool against No. 24 Wichita State last week and got two solid starting pitching performances.
If the hitting can catch up to the starting pitching, the Sioux will be in good shape when GWC play rolls around.
The Sioux softball team has already earned wins over 2009 NCAA Tournament team Tulsa and Dayton.
Both teams will hit the road at the end of the week on extensive spring break roadtrips.
Should be a fun weekend at the Ralph. Hope you have your tickets because the series is sold out. And if you are going, don't forget to wear your white!
