GRAND FORKS, N.D.--Former University of North Dakota standouts Matt Greene and T.J. Oshie have been named to the United States roster for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Hockey Championship.
Greene, a defenseman and assistant captain with the Los Angeles Kings, appeared in 75 games this season and registered two goals and seven assists. A five-year NHL veteran, Greene has previously played for the United States at the 2007 and 2008 World Championships.
Greene played in 122 career games for UND from 2002-05, recording 31 points and 347 penalty minutes. The Grand Ledge, Mich., native served as team captain in 2004-05 and led the Fighting Sioux to the NCAA championship game.
Oshie is coming off of his second season with the St. Louis Blues and tied for second on the team in scoring with a career-high 48 points. He appeared in 76 games for the Blues and recorded 18 goals and 30 assists.
It is the second straight year Oshie has been named to the U.S. roster for the World Championship.
Oshie appeared in 129 games at North Dakota from 2005-08 and scored 142 points (59 goals, 83 assists) in 129 games, leading the Sioux to the NCAA Frozen Four in each of his three seasons. The Warroad, Minn., native was a Hobey Baker Award finalist and All-America first team selection in 2007-08. A two-time All-WCHA pick, Oshie was named to the all-conference first team in 2007-08 and the all-conference third team in 2006-07.
Greene and Oshie join defenseman Taylor Chorney as former Sioux named to the U.S. team. Chorney was named to the team earlier this month.
The IIHF World Championship runs May 7-23, in Germany.
