YANKTON, S.D.--University of North Dakota sophomore Chris Stoks placed fourth in the 400-meter dash today, leading the Fighting Sioux to a fifth-place finish at the 2010 Great West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Williams Field.
UND finished the three-day meet with 58 points.
Stoks, a native of Virginia, Minn., recorded a time of 48.51 seconds, enjoying UND's finest individual finish during the final day of competition.
Senior Travis Schultz (Lakeville, Minn.) and junior Brandon Quesenberry (Billings, Mont.) gave UND a pair of top-eight performers in the hammer throw, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Senior Nicholas Wilkens (Bismarck, N.D.), who scored yesterday in the high jump, finished sixth today in the triple jump with a leap of 42.05.50 feet (12.94 meters).
Two more Sioux seniors also scored in their respective events today; Kyle Rosseau (Eagan, Minn.) took seventh in the 800-meter run, Carl Hanson (Oak Creek, Wis.) took seventh in the 110-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Tyler Rose (Brainerd, Minn.) placed eighth in the 1,500-meter run.
In the relay events, UND placed sixth in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Utah Valley won the conference championship with 261.50 points. UVU also swept the individual awards, with Scott Houle claiming GWC Coach of the Year honors and Trac Norris being named both Male Athlete of the Year and Male Newcomer of the Year.
