GRAND FORKS, N.D.- University of North Dakota head softball coach Sami Strinz has announced the signing of three student-athletes to the 2010-11 Fighting Sioux softball roster. National letter of intent commitments were recently received from Hannah Fischer (Grants Pass, Ore.), Kendra Wright (Olathe, Kan.) and Brandee Ybarra (Riverside, Calif.).
Fischer, a senior at Grants Pass High School in Grants Pass, Ore., is a two-year letterwinner as a shortstop where she had a .426 batting average with two home runs, 15 RBI and 24 runs scored. She was named second team all-state in 2007 and chose UND because "the campus is beautiful and I felt like UND is where I fit."
Fischer also competed in cross country, swimming and track and field during high school and is the daughter of Jon and Gail Gooding.
Wright, a senior at Olathe Northwest High School in Olathe, Kan., is a four-year letterwinner playing second base where in her first three seasons she was named all-state twice, all-conference three times and helped her team to a state championship and runner-up finish. She chose UND because "the people made me feel welcome when I visited and I like the engineering school."
Wright looks to major in civil engineering and is the daughter of Lori and Ken Wright.
Ybarra, a senior at Ramona High School in Riverside, Calif., is a four-year letterwinner as a utility player at third base, shortstop, outfield and catcher. A 2008-10 National Honor Society member she was named a scholar athlete from 2007-10 being named to the Highest Honors Roll. She chose UND because "I fell in love with the campus and the community."
Wright is planning on majoring in nursing and is the daughter of Angel and Valerie Ybarra.
