MOSCOW, Idaho -- Early in the week Chris Mussman could feel it.
"We need a game," said the head coach of the University of North Dakota football team.
With an August-full of practices, conditioning and weight lifting, the team was getting anxious to battle an opponent. No more collisions with teammates, no more drills. They were ready to start the 2010 season.
That opportunity starts tomorrow here in Moscow, Idaho.
"We're going to go down there and give it our best effort," senior linebacker and captain Ryan Kasowski said. "To us it will be another game, hopefully, and we'll see what happens."
Game on TV
The North Dakota/Idaho match-up can be seen live across the state of North Dakota through the Midco Sports Network, which is channel 27 for Midcontinent Communication subscribers. The game can also be seen nationally on Altitude. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
Travel notes
UND arrived in Moscow this morning and was able to practice in the Kibbie Dome, home of the Idaho Vandals. Student-athletes said they weren't sure what to expect from the field, but said they were impressed and excited to play there.
Some compared it to UND's playing surface the Alerus Center. Both have seating adjacent to the field with open ends and roll-up turf.
The Kibbie Dome (full name William H. Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center) was built in 1971, enclosed in 1975 and has seen renovations over the past few years.
Sioux fans travel well
A number of Fighting Sioux fans were present during UND's final walkthrough today. It's an always-amazing number how many Sioux fans travel to cheer on the team on away games.
Fans, alumni and friends also gathered around town both tonight and with a pregame party set for tomorrow before the game.
Players also travel well
Decked in suits during travel, the UND football team looked stylish and professional on their first road trip of the season.
Junior quarterback Brent Goska took an informal poll, attempting to find out who was the "Best Dressed" on this trip. Results were mixed, but top votes came in for true freshman R.J. McGill in the players division and running backs coach Jace Schillinger for the coaches.
Nice to see McGill already making an impact on his first trip as a Fighting Sioux. Hopefully there's more in store from McGill and the rest of the UND football team tomorrow night.
UND football media relations director Christy Kramer contributed to this report.
