NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Two Fighting Sioux players responsible for big fourth-quarter plays in Saturday's 27-25 victory at Northern Colorado were honored by the Great West Conference on Sunday. Placekicker
Zeb Miller (Ankeny, Iowa) earned the league's weekly special teams honor for the second straight week, while junior
Jay Nelson (Wheaton, Minn.) picked up his first career defensive honor.
Miller sent a 54-yard field goal through the uprights with just under two minutes to play to provide the winning margin for the Sioux. He also made a 41-yarder in the third for his 11th straight make to open the season.
Nelson's big fourth-quarter play came on the final offensive play of the game for the Bears as he deflected a 4th-and-1 pass attempt by NC quarterback Seth Lobato to seal the victory. That was just one of many superb plays the defensive end made during the contest as he finished with a sack, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a pair of forced fumbles.
The Fighting Sioux will return home for a Saturday tilt against Sioux Falls. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Alerus Center.
