GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota junior forward
Brett Hextall has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) co-Offensive Player of the Week, announced today by the league office.
Hextall scored three goals in UND's WCHA series at St. Cloud State last weekend, with all three goals giving the Fighting Sioux the lead.
A native of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Hextall scored twice in Saturday's 3-2 victory, including the game-winning power-play goal in the third period. Hextall had previously given UND a 2-1 lead with an even strength goal late in the second period. He also opened the scoring in Friday's 3-3 overtime tie.
Hextall scored his three goals on only five shots, and finished the series with a +2 plus/minus rating. He extended his point streak to five games and his goal-scoring streak to three games. Hextall now has 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in 28 games this season and is a +15.
Hextall shared the award with Minnesota senior forward Jacob Cepis.
Minnesota State junior goalie Austin Lee was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, and Michigan Tech freshman forward Ryan Furne was named WCHA Rookie of the Week.
Hextall and the top-ranked Sioux (22-8-3, 17-6-1 WCHA) host Bemidji State on Saturday and Sunday in UND's final home series of the regular season.
