GRAND FORKS, N.D. - A blizzard warning has been issued for the city of Grand Forks and the surrounding region, and fans attending tonight's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) playoff game between host North Dakota and Michigan Tech are urged to use caution on the way to and from the arena.
The blizzard warning will be in effect from 3 p.m. today until 6 a.m. tomorrow. Two to four inches of snow is expected, along with north to northwest winds of 25 to 40 miles per hour. Travel will become very hazardous Friday night due to reduced visibilities in falling snow, and blowing and drifting snow. Prior to the snowfall, there may be a period of light freezing drizzle or light ran through early afternoon, which could result in icy roads.
Tonight's game will begin at 7:37 p.m. Central as scheduled. Fans are urged to exercise good judgment in any travel outside of Grand Forks, and to stay tuned to the latest forecasts.
Doors to Ralph Engelstad Arena will open at 6:30 p.m. The main lobby is opened throughout the day and is available for any fans wishing to enter the venue early.
The game will be televised live on the Fighting Sioux Sports Network, Fox College Sports Central, Midco Sports Net and DirecTV Channel 617, and a video webcast can be purchased at FightingSioux.com. Fans can also listen to the game on 96.1 FM The Fox and on FightingSioux.com.
