OPENING TIP: League-leading North Dakota (14-10, 5-1 GWC) will play its final Great West Conference home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 11 as the Fighting Sioux host the Highlanders of NJIT (9-14, 3-3 GWC) ... Fans are encouraged to attend as this will also mark the second to last home game for legendary head coach Gene Roebuck, who announced earlier this year that this will be his final season at the helm of the Fighting Sioux ... Uju Nwankwo is shooting a team-high 49.7 percent (71-for-143) from the field and Denisa Domiterova is shooting 33.8 percent (52-for-154) from three-point range and 84.6 percent (11-for-13) at the free throw line ... Nicole Maticka leads with 60 blocks (2.6/game) and Kimberly Dweck has dished out 48 assists (48 2.1/game) ... LAST MEETING | JAN. 26 | UND PICKS UP FIRST GWC WIN AT NJIT: Led by double-figure efforts by junior guard Nicole Smart, senior guard Charnise Mothershed and sophomore center Allyssa Wall, the University of North Dakota women's basketball team tallied its first Great West Conference win of the season, posting a 65-55 victory over NJIT at the Fleisher Athletics Center ... A native of Ada, Minn., Smart led all players with 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field, including two three-pointers, and a perfect 2-for-2 effort at the free throw line. She scored 10 of her points in the first half and was a key component in both of UND's big first half runs ... Mothershed finished 4-for-9 from the field, including two three-pointers, and went 2-for-5 at the free throw line to finish with 12 points. It was her second straight double-figure game, marking the first career two-game, double-digit streak for the Phoenix, Ariz., native ... Wall finished with 10 points on 5-for-15 shooting from the field, and with nine rebounds, fell just shy of a double-double. The North Sioux City, S.D., native pulled down eight defensive boards to help North Dakota win the rebounding battle 36-29 ... North Dakota finished 23-for-54 (42.6 percent) from the field, 6-for-12 (50 percent) at three-point range, and 13-for-23 (56.5 percent) at the free throw line. The Green and White converted NJIT's 21 turnovers into 15 points and scored 21 points on second chances ... Nicole Maticka led NJIT with 13 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the field and a 1-for-4 mark at the free throw line. The 6-3 center netted a team-high two three-pointers and brought down eight rebounds (six defensive). Senior guard Charnay Mothershed continues to lead at the free throw line, shooting 88.2 percent (45-for-51) and red shirt freshman center Emily Evers is still the team's top shooter from the field where she holds a 53.2 (59-for-111) shooting percentage ... 1,100TH GAME FOR NORTH DAKOTA: When North Dakota and Chicago State tipped off on Saturday afternoon in Chicago, it marked the 1,100th game for the University of North Dakota women's basketball program ... Since the first official game was played on Dec. 8, 1975, UND has gone 434-87 at home, 289-162 on the road and 75-44 on neutral ground.
WALL CAPTURES GREAT WEST WEEKLY HONOR: After taking College Sports Madness Great West Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon, University of North Dakota sophomore center Allyssa Wall added Great West Conference Player of the Week honors to the list ... Wall, a native of North Sioux City, S.D., nabbed both awards after posting back-to-back double-figure games to lead North Dakota to a 2-0 record in conference play last week. She averaged 19.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.5 bpg, and 24.5 mpg ... She opened the week with a 29-point, 10-rebound performance during the 93-34 win over Houston Baptist. Up against the Huskies, Wall knocked down a career-high 13 field goals and went a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe ... Wall followed with 20 points and six rebounds during the 93-60 win over Texas-Pan American. Against the Broncs she shot a team-best 8-for-10 from the field and went 4-for-6 at the free throw line ... Others nominated: Janay Dockery (Chicago State), Devyn Weymouth (Houston Baptist), Bianca Torre (Texas-Pan American) and Sammie Jensen (Utah Valley).
WALL GARNERS COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS ACCOLADES: University of North Dakota sophomore center Allyssa Wall was named the College Sports Madness Great West Conference Player of the Week after posting back-to-back 20-point games during last week's GWC action at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center ... Wall, a native of North Sioux City, S.D., averaged 24.5 ppg and 8.0 rpg as North Dakota routed Houston Baptist 93-34 Thursday evening and dominated Texas-Pan American 93-60 Saturday afternoon ... Against the Huskies, Wall put up a career-high 29 points on 13-for-20 shooting from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 outing at the free throw line. Wall was so dominant on the court that with four and a half minutes left in the opening half, she alone led the Huskies 17-16. With 9:31 left to go in the game, she was knotted with HBU at 27-27 ... Facing the Broncs, Wall went 8-for-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe to notch an even 20 points. She brought down a team-high six rebounds (four defensive) to lead UND to a 35-32 rebounding advantage.
LAST TIME OUT | FEB. 9 | DOUBLE-FIGURE FINISHES SEND SIOUX PAST COUGARS: Led by 18 points from sophomore center Allyssa Wall, the University of North Dakota women's basketball team defended its home court against Great West Conference foe Chicago State with an 80-46 win over the Cougars at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center ... The win put top-ranked North Dakota (14-10, 5-1 GWC) on a five-game winning streak while the Cougars dropped to 5-19, 3-3 GWC ... Wall, a native of North Sioux City, S.D., hit 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 at the free throw line to tally her fifth straight double-figure game. She added seven rebounds (five defensive) and a season-high-tying four blocked shots ... Junior guard Carly Rothfusz (Eden Prairie, Minn.) went a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range en route to a career-high-tying 15 points. With a 2-for-2 performance from long distance on Saturday against Texas-Pan American, Rothfusz is a perfect 5-for-5 behind the arc through the past two games ... After a slow start to the beginning of the season, sophomore forward Megan Lauck (Shoreview, Minn.) is averaging 7.5 ppg since the conference season got underway. With 11 points tonight, she tied her season-high for the third time and put herself on a two-game double-figure scoring streak ... Wrapping up the high scoring list was sophomore forward Katie Houdek. The Grafton, N.D., native finished 5-for-10 from the field for a season-high-tying 10 points ... Hitting a double-figure mark of her own was senior Charnise Mothershed, who led both sides with 12 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards. The 5-7 guard from Phoenix, Ariz., led the Fighting Sioux to a 49-24 rebounding advantage over CSU ... UND shot 51.8 percent (29-for-56) from the field, 36.4 percent (4-for-11) at three-point range, and 81.8 percent (18-for-22) at the free throw line. This marked the second game in a row that the Sioux have shot over 50 percent from the field ... Jasmine Collins led the Cougars with 12 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field, Paris Williams finished with 11 points, and Tierra Williams knocked down 10, including a pair of three-pointers. The Cougars shot 32.3 percent (20-for-62) from the field, 21.4 percent (3-for-14) from behind the arc, and 60 percent (3-for-5) at the free throw line.
