GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Sophomore
Jamal Webb (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored a game-high 19 points to lead North Dakota past Texas-Pan American 86-60 in Great West Conference action Monday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. It was the largest win of the season in league play for the Sioux (14-14, 5-4 GWC), who pulled even with the Broncs (11-19, 5-4 GWC), moving into a tie for second place in the GWC standings.
Webb was one of three UND players to bury a trio of 3-pointers as the team knocked down a season-high 14 in the victory. He also dished out a team-high eight assists and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Sioux finished the game 14-for-28 from behind the arc as they won their third straight game for the first time this season. Sophomore
Aaron Anderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) made all three treys he attempted to finish with 15 points, while senior
Patrick Mitchell (Des Moines, Iowa) also made three from deep to score 11 points.
“I think from start to finish because the defensive effort was there,” UND head coach
Brian Jones said after being asked if this was the best his team has played this season. “Our offensive was consistent all night. We did a great job with the tempo, pushing the tempo and really sharing the ball … This is how you want to be playing going into March.”
The UTPA starters only accounted for half the team's points and the visitors made only 34.4 percent of their field goal attempts. Josh Cleveland gave the Broncs a boost off the bench, netting a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but only senior Jared Maree joined him in double figures with 10 points.
UND made a statement early with a 10-0 run to open the game as the home would never trail in the contest. The Sioux buried eight of their season-high 3-pointers in the first half to build a 44-20 lead at the break.
Freshman
Lenny Antwi (Montreal, Quebec) scored seven first-half points off the bench and finished with a career-high 11 in the contest. Sophomore
