Competition runs deep for Derek Forbort. At the age of five, the sophomore defenseman on the University of North Dakota played hockey against others from his mother's day care. Huge games would form in his backyard rink.

"It was crazy," Forbort said in a recent UND Sports feature. "It was pretty chippy out there."

Forbort talked about his early playing days, being drafted in the first round of the NHL Draft and his potential pre-med plans for UND Sports.
