UND bests rivals in cross country opener

FARGO, N.D. -- North Dakota opened the 2012 cross country season by defeating longtime rivals North Dakota State and South Dakota State at the Bison Cross Country Duals today.

UND defeated host NDSU 18-49, and downed SDSU 28-32.

Junior Kyle Economy and sophomore Nick Lindstrom paced UND by finishing third and fourth, respectively. Economy completed the 8K course in 26:36.30, while Lindstrom clocked a time of 26:45.41.

SDSU's Michael Krsnak took medalist honors with a time of 26:09.54.

Four other UND runners joined Economy and Lindstrom in the top 10, including Sam Saccoman, Nate Peterson, Dwight Mandimika and Parker Wharram, who placed 7-8-9-10. Both Saccoman and Wharram were making their UND debuts.

After a week off, UND will return to action Sept. 14 at the South Dakota State Classic.
