FARGO, N.D. – The University of North Dakota men's cross country team defeated Interstate 29 rival South Dakota in one of three season-opening duals today at the Bison Open at Rose Creek Golf Course.
UND defeated the Coyotes 26-31, paced by the running of junior Nick Lindstrom (Shakopee, Minn.). Lindstrom placed second among UND and USD runners with a 5K time of 16 minutes flat. He finished fifth overall among 46 runners at the meet.
Sophomore Parker Wharram (Independence, Minn.) was UND's next-best finisher, placing 15th overall with a time of 16:21.81. Senior Sam Saccoman (Hibing, Minn.) and junior Nate Peterson (Horace, N.D.) also cracked the top 20, finishing 17th and 19th, respectively.
UND dropped its two other duals, falling to North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
UND is back in action Friday, Sept. 6, at the University of Minnesota's Oz Memorial.
