FARGO, N.D. -- The North Dakota men's basketball team never got on track Saturday night against North Dakota State as the Bison dealt its rivals a 71-42 setback at Scheels Arena.

NDSU (5-4) jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the opening six minutes and made nine straight field goals during one stretch of the first half to build a 43-19 lead on UND (3-6) at the break.

“We just did not compete from start to finish,” UND head coach Brian Jones said. “NDSU came out with high energy and took it to us.”

The Bison went 16-for-22 overall from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, while holding UND to a 34.6 percent clip (9-for-26).

Freshman Bryce Cashman went 3-for-4 from the floor for UND and had all seven of his season-high points in the first half, but UND could not get in a rhythm offensively and went 0-for-8 from beyond the arc, while NDSU went 4-for-7.

The second half was a similar story as UND did not get going offensively until the closing minutes after the game was out of reach. Senior Lenny Antwi led UND in scoring with nine points, while Josiah Coleman joined Cashman, who was making his first career start, with seven points.

The visitors did a better job on the defensive end in the closing half, holding NDSU to just 32 percent shooting, but UND never managed to put a rally together in this one.

NDSU's Kory Brown led all scorers with 18 points and Dexter Werner added 17 off the Bison bench. Guard Paul Miller added 10 points and led all players with nine rebounds. Miller's work on the glass helped NDSU hold a 38-26 edge in that category.

NDSU finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field and holding UND to only 33 percent.

UND will be in action next Friday at home vs. Dickinson State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
