WALNUT, Calif. – For the second time this season, University of North Dakota sophomore Stephanie Clarke has broken her own school record in the 400-meter dash.
Running on Friday at the 56th annual Mt. SAC Relays, Clarke clocked a time of 55.47 seconds to break the previous record of 55.91 she set March 24 at Coastal Carolina. The Edmonton, Alberta, native first set the UND 400-meters record as a freshman at the Long Beach Invitational.
Clarke's record-breaking time ranks third in the Big Sky Conference this season. She placed seventh in her section and 31st overall among 73 participants.
Three other sophomores – all throwers – also competed in the Mt. SAC Relays Friday night.
Ke-Ke Burks won her flight in the hammer throw and placed 13th overall among 31 competitors. The Madison, Wis., native recorded a throw of 181 feet, 11 inches (55.44 meters).
Molly Griep, a Whitewater, Wis., native, competed in both the shot put and discus. In the shot put, Griep placed sixth in her flight with a mark of 43-09 ¾ (13.35). In the discus, she finished eighth in her flight with a throw of 158-10 (48.41).
In the javelin, Jayd Eggert (Minot, N.D.) was eighth in her flight with a mark of 139-03 (42.45).
It was one of three events for UND track last night, with student-athletes also competing at the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College and at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University.
