The two teams met earlier this season at Ralph Engelstad Arena, Nov. 21-22, tying the first contest, 2-2, with UND winning the second, 4-3. The Buckeyes won the ensuing shootout 1-0. In the second game, Ohio State scored first and held a 2-1 advantage after two periods, but three-straight goals in the third helped UND secure a 4-3 win.

Last Time Out
UND returned from winter break hosting Syracuse for a nonconference series at Ralph Engelstad Arena, Jan. 10-11. It was the first time the two teams had met in program history.

North Dakota scored three-straight goals, one each period, to open a 3-0 lead in the first game of the series. With a short lineup due to illness, defensemen Gracen Hirschy and Tori Williams played up as forwards for the weekend and Hirschy opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season with just under a minute remaining in the first period. The halfway through the second period while on the power play, Layla Marvin scored her first of the season to put UND up 2-0. Just after the halfway point in the third, Kayla Gardner added a third for UND. Unfortunately, two minutes later, Syracuse scored its first of the weekend to cut its deficit to two. In the final minute of play, Marvin added an empty-netter to secure the win for UND.

On Sunday, Syracuse was led by its goaltender Jenn Gilligan, as she posted a career-high 44 saves to backstop the Orange to a 2-1 win over UND. Syracuse opened the scoring while on the power play just under seven minutes into the first period. The Orange then extended its lead to 2-0 off a scramble in front of the UND net within the first minute of the second period. Hirschy scored her second of the weekend, to cut UND's deficit in half before the close of the second period. In the final period of play, neither side was able to find the back of the net, as Gilligan turned away 14 UND shots in the third.
