MacMillan among Hockey Humanitarian Award candidates

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – For the second consecutive year, University of North Dakota senior forward Mark MacMillan has been named a national candidate for the BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award.

The 15 men's and women's candidates were announced on Thursday.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the award is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen – a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team, but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism. Earlier this week, MacMillan was also named a national candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.

MacMillan, a native of Penticton, British Columbia, is UND's leading active scorer with 41 goals and 52 assists in 141 career games. This season he leads the team with 11 goals in 19 games and has added eight assists for 19 points.

One of UND's most active student-athletes in the community, MacMillan played a lead role in UND's 2013-14 North Dakota Strong campaign that raised more than $33,000 for cancer research. It was the largest charitable fundraiser ever initiated and executed by the UND Athletics Department and MacMillan was later named a national candidate for the 2014 Hockey Humanitarian Award.

An entrepreneurship major with a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, MacMillan is a two-time academic all-conference selection.

The finalists will be announced in February and the winner will be recognized in a ceremony on Friday, April 10, as part of the NCAA Frozen Four in Boston.
