GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota sophomore Cam Johnson has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Goaltender of the Week for the third consecutive week and for the fourth time this season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Johnson stopped all 78 shots he faced in North Dakota's NCHC sweep at No. 17 Minnesota Duluth last weekend, earning his second and third consecutive shutouts. The Troy, Mich., native is in the midst of the second-longest shutout streak in program history at 218 minutes, 38 seconds. Only Gerald “Spike” Schultz had a longer shutout streak in UND history, putting together a scoreless streak of 249:41 on the strength of four straight shutouts in Jan. 1954.
In Friday's 3-0 win at UMD, Johnson made a career-high 40 saves and followed up the following night with 38 saves in another 3-0 victory.
Johnson now ranks second nationally in goals against average (1.20) and save percentage (.955) and has yet to lose in his 10 appearances, going 7-0-1.
St. Cloud State forward Kalle Kossila was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week, SCSU senior Ethan Prow was the NCHC Defenseman of the Week, and Western Michigan forward Griffen Molino was named NCHC Rookie of the Week.
