GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota forwards Nick Schmaltz and Brock Boeser have both been named to the final roster for the 2016 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship (IIHF) Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Helsinki, Finland.

The roster was announced Wednesday morning by USA Hockey.

Schmaltz is a repeat selection to the team after having played for Team USA at the 2015 World Junior Championship. In 20 games this season for UND, the sophomore from Verona, Wis., has 26 points and leads the nation in assists (23) and plus/minus (+29). His 26 points tie him for fourth in the national scoring race.  

Schmaltz is the 11th UND player to participate in multiple World Junior Championships and the first since defenseman Derek Forbort represented the United States in 2011 and 2012.

Boeser, a freshman from Burnsville, Minn., leads the nation's freshmen in goals (13) and plus/minus (+22) and ranks third with 21 points. He possesses significant international experience, having captained Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2014-15 Ivan Hlinka Tournament and leading the team in scoring en route to a silver medal at the same tournament in 2013-14. Boeser also helped Team USA to gold medal at the 2013-14 Five Nations Tournament.
