HELSINKI, Finland -- North Dakota forwards Nick Schmaltz and Brock Boeser each collected their first points of the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships today, helping lift the United States to a 10-1 victory over Switzerland.
With the victory, Team USA clinched a spot in the tournament quarterfinals while improving to 2-1-0 in the preliminary round.
Schmaltz scored a goal and added an assist -- his first points of the tournament -- while firing four shots on goal. Boeser, meanwhile, assisted on Schmaltz's goal for his own first point of the tournament.
Both players had a plus-1 rating in the win over the Swiss.
The U.S. will finish play in the preliminary round tomorrow (Dec. 31) at 9 a.m. ET against Denmark with live television coverage in the U.S. on NHL Network.
Th U.S. can finish from second to fourth in Group A depending upon how tomorrow's games finish. If the U.S. defeats Denmark in regulation, it will finish second in Group A and play its quarterfinal game on Jan. 2 against the third-place team in Group B.
