GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Every North Dakota player logged at least six minutes and all but one scored in a convincing 76-45 win over Portland State Thursday evening at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The UND reserves combined for 36 points in the effort.
Plenty of career bests were logged in the win as sophomore
Samantha Roscoe tallied eight points and seven rebounds, both new personal bests. Sophomore
Ellen Kiser led UND in rebounding with eight while freshman
Grace Sawatzke added seven rebounds for new career highs.
North Dakota (17-9, 9-5) led from the start and put it out of reach early, piling up an 11-3 advantage six minutes in. That lead would swell to 19 on a 17-6 spurt that saw the UND defense lock in and force Portland State to just 7-of-26 shooting in the opening frame.
The home team would see its lead grow to as many as 26 in the first frame before heading into the break with a convincing 46-21 edge. UND outscored the Vikings 20-4 in the paint in the first half and turned 10 Viking turnovers into 15 points.
The UND starters handed it off to the reserves to take it to the finish line and the bench turned in a solid output. Roscoe's line came in just 12 minutes of work Thursday. Her jumper at the 8:40 mark made it a 36-point game, UND's largest lead as the home team coasted to its 10th home win of the season (7-0 in Big Sky play).
PSU (3-22, 1-13) was led by Emily Easom, who shot just 2-of-15 from the floor but finished with 11 points.
North Dakota (17-9, 9-5) hosts Sacramento State Saturday at the Betty. Tip is slated for 2:00 p.m.
Notes:
Emily Evers remains 29 points shy of 1,000 for her career with
Megan Lauck 32 away and
Mia Loyd needing 53 for the milestone ... Head coach
Travis Brewster won his 50th career game in the win (50-37) ... UND is 25-2 at home the past two seasons combined ... Portland State has lost all four visits to North Dakota all-time, by an average margin of 24 points per game ... Sacramento State fell 78-76 Thursday at Northern Colorado to fall into a tie with North Dakota for third place at 9-5 (Eastern Washington won to improve to 9-4).
