GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota junior goaltender Zane McIntyre has been named one of five national finalists for the 2015 Mike Richter Award, given annually to the most outstanding goalie in NCAA Division I men's hockey.
The finalists, announced on Wednesday by Let's Play Hockey magazine and the Herb Brooks Foundation, also included St. Lawrence freshman Kyle Hayton, Michigan State junior Jake Hildebrand, Yale sophomore Alex Lyon and Michigan Tech junior Jamie Phillips.
In order to be considered for the award:
- Candidates must display outstanding skills on the ice
- Candidates should be in good academic standing at an NCAA college or university
- Consideration should be given to academic achievement and sportsmanship
- Candidates must comply with all NCAA rules; be full-time students at an NCAA college or university; and complete 50 percent or more of the season
- Consideration should be given to the candidate's activities in the community
An All-NCHC First Team selection and a finalist for NCHC Goaltender of the Year, McIntyre has appeared in all 37 games for UND this season, going 27-7-3 with a 1.97 goals against average and a school-record-tying .932 save percentage. His 27 wins are tied for the national lead and are tied for the third-most in UND single-season history. McIntyre, a native of Thief River Falls, Minn., also ranks among the top 10 nationally in appearances, starts (36), minutes played (2195:58), winning percentage (.770), saves (989), goals against average and save percentage.
McIntyre, a draft pick of the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins, is UND's all-time leader in career goals against average (2.07) and save percentage (.927). He also ranks fourth all-time in wins (56), sixth in winning percentage (.703), seventh in appearances (87), ninth in saves (2,262) and tied for ninth in shutouts.
McIntyre is a psychology major and a two-time selection to the Academic All-NCHC Team.
The second annual Mike Richter Award will be presented by Mike Richter at the 2015 NCAA Men's Frozen Four in Boston.
