GREELEY, Colo. – The University of North Dakota could rally from an early deficit to Northern Colorado, as the Bears handed UND a 7-1 loss on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, UND falls to 8-24 (0-6 Big Sky Conference), while Northern Colorado improves to 8-17 (3-3 Big Sky).
UND recorded a total of eight hits in the game, but the Bears limited UND to just one run. On the other side, Northern Colorado only had nine hits, but scored seven runs. Additionally, North Dakota committed three errors, to just one error committed by UNC.
The Bears got on the board first with two runs in the first inning and added to their lead with three runs in the third. Northern Colorado scored one run in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead before UND could get on the board.
Jackie Lilek hit a lead-off double in the top of the sixth. Shelby Hard followed up singling to left field which scored Lilek.
Unfortunately, UND was unable to score any further runs, stranding two on base in the inning, while Northern Colorado added one more run in the bottom of the sixth for the final 7-1 win.
North Dakota takes on Montana in Big Sky action next weekend in Missoula, Mont., April 3-4. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to start 3:30 p.m. (CT).
