GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota men's tennis team ended its 2015 campaign this weekend, suffering a 6-1 loss to Idaho in Moscow, Idaho on Saturday night, before claiming a 9-0 win against Spokane Community College in Spokane, Wash., on Sunday afternoon.
In the final Big Sky Conference dual of the season, the Vandals picked up the first point against UND winning the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches. The No. 3 doubles match featuring UND's Joe Lee and Simon Danyluk went unfished with the score tied at 5-5.
Danyluk was the only UND student-athlete to win his singles match against Idaho, defeating UI's Alberto Sanz, 7-6, 6-4, in the No. 6 spot.
North Dakota finishes the season in 11th place in the Big Sky, with a conference record of 1-10. UND's lone BSC win came on March 29 in a 6-1 victory over Southern Utah.
After closing out the conference schedule, UND then took on Spokane Community College on Sunday afternoon, defeating SCC, 9-0, as each doubles match scored a point.
David Bergstrom and Connor Oberle won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-2, Dustin Britton and Ty Misialek won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-3, and Danyluk and Lee won their No. 3 match, 8-2. Additionally, Danyluk won his No. 6 singles match without dropping a set.
In the No. 1 singles match, Britton downed SCC's Colton Erho, 6-2, 6-3, and in the No. 2 match, Bergstrom defeated Chad McKenzie, 6-0, 6-1.
Oberle capped off his No. 3 singles match with a 6-2, 6-1 win, Lee took the No. 4 match, 6-0, 6-1, and Misialek won 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 5 match to finish off the sweep.
North Dakota finishes the 2015 season with an overall record of 6-12.
