GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) announced today they have signed North Dakota senior captain Stephane Pattyn to an amateur tryout contract.
Pattyn is expected to make his professional debut on Wednesday night at Rockford and will reunite with former UND teammate and 2011-12 team captain Mario Lamoureux, who signed a professional tryout contract with Charlotte earlier on Wednesday.
Pattyn played in 167 career games at North Dakota, tying him for sixth all-time in program history and tops among all active Division I men's hockey players in 2014-15. He missed just one game in four years at UND and appeared in 124 straight games to close out his career.
The Ste. Anne, Manitoba, native finished his collegiate career with 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points and added 234 penalty minutes. Eight of his 19 career goals stood as game-winners.
Pattyn helped lead UND to consecutive NCAA Frozen Fours as a junior and senior and the 2014-15 Penrose Cup as National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) regular-season champion. He was also a freshman on the 2011-12 UND squad that won the Broadmoor Trophy as Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) playoff champion.
In 2014-15, Pattyn appeared in all 42 games for UND and registered six goals and 14 points. Three of his goals were game-winners, including two that came shorthanded.
Pattyn is the second UND senior to have signed a professional contract since the end of the 2014-15 season. Forward Mark MacMillan signed an entry level contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday.
