GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- North Dakota head football coach
Bubba Schweigert added a pair of junior college transfers to his roster that started their collegiate careers in the Big Sky Conference. Defensive back Tamas Stewart and quarterback
Andrew Zimmerman will join the UND program in January and partcipate in spring practices.
Stewart spent two seasons at Sacramento State before spending this past season at Chaffey College and Zimmerman began his collegiate career at Eastern Washington in 2015 before playing this past season at Fresno City College. Stewart will have two seasons of eligibility at UND, while Zimmeran will have three.
"We like the skill sets of both of these young men and think they will arrive on campus in January and immediately make our football team more competitive," Schweigert said. "Tamas is a rangy, athletic player that tackles really well. We think he can come in right away and compete for a starting position at safety.
"Andrew is a big, strong quarterback that can make all the throws in our offense. He has some good mobility and can throw on the run as well. We want solid depth at all our positions because we feel that makes our team better."
A Rialto, Calif., native, Stewart redshirted his first season at Sacramento State in 2014 before being sidelined with an injury in 2015. He made 43 tackles and had four pass break-ups during 10 games for the Panthers this past season.
Stewart prepped at Carter High School where he racked up 125 career tackles in three varisty seasons and was an All-Sandreas League first team selection as a senior in 2013.
Zimmerman checks in at 6-foot-2 and 205-pounds. He started the final six games during his lone season at Fresno City College, throwing for 17 touchdowns and only four interceptions.
The Monroe, Wash., native played in only four games as a high school senior before an injury derailed his final prep campaign. He led his team to victories in each of those contests and threw for 1,032 yards and 13 touchdowns.
