GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Nine University of North Dakota freshmen have been named to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's (NCHC) 2015-16 Academic All-Conference Team, two of whom were also named to the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Team. Both teams were announced on Monday.
UND's nine freshmen on the team included Ryan Anderson, Brock Boeser, Danys Chartrand, Rhett Gardner, Mike Gornall, Joel Janatuinen, Hayden Shaw, Chris Wilkie, and Christian Wolanin. Anderson and Shaw were also named to the scholar-athlete team.
To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average (or better) and have completed a full academic year at their current institution. Similarly, for the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Team, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better with a full year of academic studies.
The NCHC announced the seniors, juniors and sophomores on its academic all-conference team in March. The freshmen were added today upon completion of the 2015-16 academic year, giving UND a total of 14 selections across all classes. UND's honorees named to the team in March included junior Matt Hrynkiw and sophomores Cam Johnson, Austin Poganski, Tucker Poolman and Johnny Simonson.
