GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota sophomore forward Brock Boeser is one of 42 players who have been invited to the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp scheduled for later this summer in Plymouth, Mich.
The players invited will audition for a roster spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship Dec. 26 through Jan. 5 in Montreal and Toronto.
Boeser was one of five returning players invited from last year's U.S. National Junior Team that won the bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland. The Burnsville, Minn., native has also previously helped lead Team USA to medalss at the 2014-15 (bronze) and 2013-14 (silver) Ivan Hlinka Tournaments.
The bronze medal performance at the 2016 World Junior Championship was one of many individual highlights during Boeser's freshman campaign at UND. He helped lead the Fighting Hawks to an NCAA championship -- garnering NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team honors with a goal and five assists in two games – and their second straight Penrose Cup as National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) regular-season champions.
Boeser also earned All-America first-team honors and was named the NCHC Rookie of the Year after leading the conference and ranking third nationally with 60 points. He joined current Minnesota Wild star Zach Parise as the only UND freshmen in the last 30 years to reach either the 25-goal or 60-point plateaus.
The USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp will run from July 30 through Aug. 7 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. The camp will include 10 international competitions between Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States. Team USA will announce its final roster at a later date.
