Saturday Game Notes: UND vs. St. Cloud State

Tonight
North Dakota attempts to sweep its NCHC Quarterfinals series with St. Cloud State and advance to next week's NCHC Frozen Faceoff at Target Center in Minneapolis.

The Fighting Hawks climbed to No. 11 in the Pairwise Rankings with last night's win and enter the night on a three-game winning streak that is their longest since the first week of January.

All UND men's hockey games, home and away, can be heard on 96.1 FM (The Fox) and on stations across the UND Sports Home of Economy Radio Network, as well as through the iHeart Radio app. Longtime broadcaster Tim Hennessy, in his 38th season as the voice of UND men's hockey, calls the action while Steve Olson provides color analysis.

Tonight's game will be telecast live on Midco Sports Network. Alex Heinert calls the action with analysis from former UND goaltender Jake Brandt. Katie Hale serves as rinkside reporter.

The game will also be streamed live via NCHC.tv.

About Last Night
Five different Fighting Hawks found the net as North Dakota defeated the Huskies 5-2 in Game 1 of the NCHC Quarterfinals.

Sophomores Rhett Gardner (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) and Shane Gersich (Chaska, Minn.) staked UND to a 2-0 first-period lead, classmate Brock Boeser (Burnsville, Minn.) scored a power-play tally in the second period, and Austin Poganski (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) added a goal in the third period. Joel Janatuinen (So., Espoo, Finland) sealed the win with an empty netter in the final minute.

Jacob Benson and Jimmy Schuldt scored power-play goals for the Huskies, who went 2-5 with the man advantage.

Cam Johnson (Jr., Troy, Mich.) turned aside 26 of 28 shots for UND, while SCSU's Jeff Smith countered with 31 saves.

With the win, UND improved to 29-6 (.829) in first-round conference playoff games at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
