GREELEY, Colo. – The University of North Dakota softball team had eight hits, compared to the Northern Colorado's two, and committed no errors while the host team committed three, but was unable to come away with the win Saturday afternoon, as Northern Colorado used a 1-0 score to defeat UND in the third game of the weekend.
“We played well enough to win, but didn't,” head coach Jordan Steven said. We out-played them in all areas except the final score, and that's what matters most. They made a big play and came up with a big hit to earn the win. We have to regroup quickly though, and bounce back Tuesday.”
Northern Colorado's lone run was scored off a home run in the bottom of the fifth, as it was just the second hit the Bears connected on in the contest.
The Fighting Hawks had good chances to put up runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but UND ended up stranding two runners in both frames.
Besides the solo home run conceded, Kaylin VanDomelen pitched a strong game for North Dakota, as the redshirt junior struck out seven through six innings.
North Dakota returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 25, with a doubleheader at South Dakota State. First pitch against the Jackrabbits is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CT).
