GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- North Dakota outscored Minnesota Crookston, 27-11, in the first quarter en route to a 74-58 exhibition win at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center Tuesday evening. UND had 10 assists on 10 made baskets in that frame and only turned it over once to build a double-digit lead that it never relinquished.Â
The Fighting Hawks had five players score in double figures led by
Faith Dooley's 13 with 11 from fellow senior
Melissa Dailey.
Lexi Klabo,
Jill Morton and
Bailey Strand-- all seniors-- chipped in 10 points apiece for the home team.Â
North Dakota got out to a fast start, leading 9-0 in the opening minutes.
Jill Morton had the first five in that stretch as the home team built on an impressive 49-point win two days earlier. UND shared the ball well and scored 10 baskets in that frame alone for a big 27-11 lead at the first quarter break.Â
From there, however, it was an even contest as the teams tied 47-47 over the final three quarters, thanks in part to a double-double from senior post Isieoma Odor, who finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The lead, though, was never really in peril as UMC could never shave the deficit below double figures and the lead hovered in the mid-teens for the remainder of the ballgame.Â
Alaina Jarnot, listed at 5-foot-7, tied for the team lead with eight rebounds for North Dakota, joining Klabo's 10-point, 8-board effort. Dooley finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots on the night.Â
North Dakota will play the first of seven straight road games to open the regular season when it travels to Syracuse on Nov. 6. UND's first home game won't come until Dec. 7 against Milwaukee.Â
