DALLAS, Texas – The Philadelphia Flyers, who are coached by former North Dakota coach and defenseman Dave Hakstol, selected UND incoming freshman forward Gavin Hain in the sixth round, 174th overall, of the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft on Saturday.

Hain, a native of Grand Rapids, Minn., spent the 2017-18 season with the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP) and registered 11 goals and 20 assists in 53 games. The 6-foot, 196-pound Hain won a silver medal at the 2017-18 Under-18 World Championship.

In 2016-17, Hain captained Grand Rapids High School to a Class 2A state championship and tallied a hat trick and an assist in the title game to earn all-tournament honors. He finished the year with 58 points in 30 games and was named to the 2016-17 USA Today All-American First Team.

Hain was the fourth UND player drafted this weekend, following first-round pick Jacob Bernard-Docker and second-rounder Jonny Tychonick, both of whom were selected by the Ottawa Senators, as well as San Jose fourth-rounder Jasper Weatherby.
