BUBBA'S THOUGHTS
On a Wednesday scrimmage:
"We wanna evaluate some young guys at this time. We're looking to go about 50 plays. This is what we think we're ready for. The units will be mixed a little bit, but the bottom line is the health of our team."
OBSERVATIONS
*Tuesday's practice was the first afternoon session of Fall Camp and couldn't have come at a better time. The steamy hot temps held off for a day and it was a mild 75-degree afternoon.
*
Noah Wanzek had a couple nice grabs-- one in traffic-- that helped re-assert that while true freshman
Garett Maag has been the talk of fall thus far, he is one of UND's top receiving threats.
*Running backs continued to have their reps limited, meaning a boatload of carries for
Teddy Sherva,
Otis Weah and
Cam McKinney.
*
Lenny Nelson IV returned to the practice field Monday after a few days of just observing.
*A scout from the Houston Texans was on hand Tuesday to check out the proceedings.
*The defensive line has noticeably kept constant pressure on the quarterbacks by habitually getting into the backfield during camp.
*Wednesday's scrimmage is the only one of its kind in fall camp. It is scheduled to be about 50 plays with coaches getting extended looks at key positions. As mentioned above, there won't be too much gathered from who is playing with which group as there will be some mixing and matching. The team is still aiming to settle in on a starting quarterback and reports are that ideally that would happen early next week.
*Midco Sports Network's new football show "Day by Day" is set to air for the first time in full on Friday. Stay tuned. First episode will cover the first two weeks of fall camp, media day and will get some thoughts from key returners about the upcoming season.
