ABOUT WESTERN ILLINOIS
Since the two teams met back on Jan. 12, Western Illinois has been playing strong basketball as the Fighting Leathernecks have won two of their last three games.
WIU picked up a big home win over Purdue Fort Wayne, 87-56, before clipping South Dakota on the road, 65-59, to move to 3-5 in conference play.
The back-to-back league victories mark the first time since Jan. 2017 that the Leathernecks have accomplished the feat. WIU has also played strong defense as of late, holding both Purdue Fort Wayne and USD under 60 points.
Kobe Webster continues to be the top dog for WIU this season, leading the team in points per game (17.6), assists per game (3.5), steals per game (1.4), FGM (135), 3PTM (53), FTM (47), and minutes per game (33.7).
SERIES HISTORY
Friday will mark the seventh all-time meeting between North Dakota and Western Illinois, with the series currently deadlocked at three.
After UND won the first two meetings in 1967, the Western Illinois captured three straight meetings in 1980 and 2011 before the Fighting Hawks won the earlier contest this season, 71-65.
A win would give UND its first regular season sweep over a conference opponent since the 2016-17 year when the Hawks swept four Big Sky Conference foes.
