Eiden’s Goal Lifts North Dakota to Eighth Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – With a Mimi Eiden goal in the 29th minute of play, the University of North Dakota improved to 8-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in The Summit League on Thursday with a 1-0 shutout victory at Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Fighting Hawks shutout was their sixth of the season and the fifth in goal for Catherine Klein, who tied the UND record (13) for career shutouts held by Eve Compton (2000-03). The goal was Eiden's seventh of the season and the 11th of her career.

While Purdue Fort Wayne controlled possession 53-percent of the time, North Dakota held the ball on its offensive end of the pitch almost two-thirds of the match as it outshot the Mastodons on goal, 14-3.

Defensively, the Fighting Hawks kept PFW out of its 18-yard box with maximum efficiency as the Mastodons only earned one corner kick in the match and spent nine-percent of its possession in the final third of the field.

Eiden's seventh goal of the season came in the 29th minute as she received a ball from McNitt and dribbled her way into the Dons box. After taking a crack at the net, the junior collected the rebounded shot off of goalkeeper Lorah Pund's save and slipped it into the net to put UND on top for good, 1-0.

Klein made three stops in the match, two in the second half, to hold the Mastodons scoreless and notch her fifth shutout of the season. The senior has 13 in the career and needs only one more to pass the mark by Compton for the top mark in University of North Dakota history.

With eight wins and five regular-season matches remaining this season, UND is one win shy of equaling its mark for most wins in a season in the Division I era.

North Dakota will close the weekend on Sunday with a tilt at Western Illinois, set to kick off at 11 a.m. Central. Fans can follow the match via live stats and Twitter.
