Newcomers Shine in Exhibition Against Concordia

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Holding Concordia College six points in the second half, including a shutout in the fourth quarter, the University of North Dakota women's basketball team earned a 98-19 victory over the Cobbers in the first exhibition game of the season.
 
UND had three scorers in double figures and made 15 shots behind the three-point line. Freshmen Kacie Borowicz and Lilly Keplin accounted for 19 and 15 points, respectively, while Julia Fleecs added 18 points. Five of Keplin's baskets were behind the arc.
 
The Fighting Hawk defense pitched a shutout in the fourth quarter, holding the Cobbers 0-for-11 from field. UND also did not allow a field goal in the second quarter, allowing six points from the free throw line.
 
Shooting 36 percent in the first half, North Dakota improved to a 51-percent clip in the final 20 minutes of play while holding Concordia College to 8.6 percent.
 
Forty of the Hawks points came in the paint while accounting for 31 fast break points. 11 of the 12 players that appeared in the contest scored.
 
UND will open the regular season Thursday, Nov. 5 when it heads to 2019 WNIT Champion Arizona.

Kacie Borowicz led the Fighting Hawks in points (19), made free throws (5) and assists (7); she finished second in rebounds (7) … Borowicz was 2019 Miss Basketball Minnesota at Roseau High School … Megan Zander led North Dakota in rebounds with nine … Zander was Miss Basketball North Dakota at Mandan … UND only committed 10 turnovers and forced 39 takeaways against the Cobbers.
