Mismash's early goal sets the tone in 4-1 win over Bemidji State

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--   A Grant Mismash goal just 36 seconds into the game set the stage for a 4-1 win over Bemidji State Saturday evening at Ralph Engelstad Arena in non-conference play.

North Dakota (4-1-1) wasted little time getting going as Jordan Kawaguchi forced a turnover behind the BSU net, stripping Bemidji State goaltender Henry Johnson of the puck and centering it for Grant Mismash. The junior promptly buried it 36 seconds into the game for a very early 1-0 Fighting Hawks advantage.

Later in that period, Cole Smith won a puck battle in the corner and raced behind the net or a wraparound attempt. Mark Senden was there to poke it home five-hole for a 2-0 North Dakota advantage.

Sophomore Jonny Tychonick made it a 3-0 game in the second with his first career goal. Adam Scheel made a big stop and it kicked out to Jordan Kawaguchi, who got the odd-man rush started. He threaded a pass to Mismash along the near boards and Mismash drove the net and feathered a perfect pass through the slot to an awaiting Tychonick on the back door to flush it home.

BSU (0-2-2) spoiled Scheel's shutout in the final stages as Aaron Miller score at the 18:43 mark. Colton Poolman would add an empty netter for North Dakota to make it  a 4-1 final.

Scheel finished the night with 19 saves. Mismash (1g, 1a) and Kawaguchi (2a) each had a pair of points in the win.

North Dakota continues its homestand with a single game next week against Michigan Tech in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 on MidcoSN, the Home of Economy Radio Network and nchc.tv.

Notes: North Dakota has now won six straight at home dating back to last season ... Poolman's goal means that 13 different UND players have scored already this season ... Shane Pinto was held without a point for the first time in his career ... Mishmash was the first star, Scheel was named the second star and Kawaguchi grabbed third star honors from the media.
