Three Weeks from Opener, Hawks Picked Sixth in Summit League Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of North Dakota women's basketball team was selected to finish sixth in The Summit League's 2019-20 Preseason poll, earning 213 points. The poll was voted on by coaches and media around The Summit League.

Despite the prognostication in the poll, Brewster spoke about the 2019-20 Fighting Hawks at Summit League Basketball Media Day in the new conference office headquarters. Entering his eighth season in-charge at UND, Brewster commented on the team's "energy, feistiness, and spunk," which features seven incoming freshmen on the roster.

"We're really excited about the season," Brewster opened. "Obviously, with a large freshmen class, it's been really exciting for us to have a preseason practice and watch them come together a bit. And also the energy difference of this group; they're spunky and  feisty, so we're having a good time."

Among the seven incoming players are two Miss Basketball winners from their respective home states: Megan Zander (Mandan, N.D.) and Kacie Borowicz (Roseau, Minn.). Borowicz will be the first Ms. Basketball award winner from Minnesota to play at the University of North Dakota. Her father, David, was a football letter winner from 1993-96, earning Don Hansen's Football Gazette Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior.

The Fighting Hawks finished 2018-19 in sixth place after posting a 6-10 record during its first season in The Summit League. UND was 12-19 last season and earned its final triumph in the First Round of The Summit League Tournament when it upset No. 3 seed Denver, overcoming a 16-point second-half deficit.

As a result, North Dakota women's basketball became the first program in UND history to record a postseason win as a member of The Summit League. The Fighting Hawks finished 32 points ahead of North Dakota State in the poll.

The Fighting Hawks are less than three weeks away from their first competition of the season on Sunday, Oct. 27 when they host Concordia College in an exhibition at The Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

Season tickets for the entire North Dakota Men's and Women's Basketball season are available now starting at just $160 for upper-level seating and $220 in the lower level sections. Tickets can be purchased at FightingHawks.com/tickets, by phone at 701-777-4689 or in-person at the Ralph Engelstad Arena Box Office.
