COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- Sophomore netminder
Adam Scheel was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Goalie of the Week for his superb play in a series win at then second-ranked Denver over the weekend. Scheel allowed just one goal each night and extended his unbeaten streak to seven in the process.
The Lakewood, Ohio product sits third in the nation in goals against average (1.53) and tied for second in wins (8). In 11 games this season, he has had eight games allowing one goal or fewer.
Friday, he recorded his third career 30-save game as North Dakota outlasted Denver in the 3-on-3 overtime.
Colton Poolman's goal in that frame gave UND an extra point in the NCHC standings.
He followed it up Saturday with a 4-1 win, making 27 stops and earning his 10th career win over a nationally-ranked team. For the week, Scheel recorded a league-best 0.96 GAA and .966 save percentage. He picks up his second NCHCÂ Goalie of the Week award after winning it in week one as well.Â
Scheel and the Fighting Hawks return home this week to battle St. Cloud State as NCHC play continues. Puck drop is set for 7:37 p.m. Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.Â
