Engel Adds Former Arkansas All-American Wallace to Staff

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach Christine Engel announced the addition of Cale Wallace to the staff on Wednesday morning, completing the staff as it begins preparations for the 2019-20 track & field and cross country seasons.

A former All-American and Volunteer Assistant Coach at Arkansas, Wallace will serve as Assistant Coach for the track & field and cross country programs, assisting Engel with the UND distance events.

"I am very excited to add Cale to our staff," said Engel. "I am confident his experiences competing for and coaching at a tremendous program like the University of Arkansas will help to elevate the University of North Dakota Track & Field and Cross Country programs."

Wallace spent the previous two seasons as a volunteer for the Razorbacks, helping the powerhouse program produce 10 All-Americans and seven Southeastern Conference Champions.

Arkansas' women's track & field team won the 2019 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships as well as SEC Championships, while the men's and women's cross country programs won South Regional Championships in 2018.

As a student-athlete, Wallace earned First Team All-America honors as a sophomore at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships in the Distance Medley Relay, helping the Razorbacks to a team National Championship.

The Cypress, Texas native was twice named an All-Region runner in cross country and served as team captain for the track and cross country teams. Wallace helped Arkansas to an impressive seven SEC Conference Championships and was runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2016 SEC Championship.

The Fighting Hawks cross country programs will report Wednesday, Aug. 14 and begin training on Thursday, Aug. 15. North Dakota will open the season in Fargo at the North Dakota State Open on Aug. 30 at Rose Creek Golf Course.
