COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- Sophomore goaltender
Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) is the back-to-back winner of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Goalie of the Month, announced Tuesday by league officials. Scheel won both games at then-17th-ranked Western Michigan to help extend UND's long unbeaten streak.
Â
Friday in Kalamazoo, Mich., Scheel stopped a career-high 41 shots in earning an overtime 1-0 win at WMU. It was the third shutout of his career and second of the season. A night later, Scheel allowed just two goals as North Dakota steamrolled the Broncos, 8-2, on the way to their first sweep in Lawson Arena since the NCAA Championship season of 2015-16. He stopped 27 of 29 shots that night to finish the weekend with a .971 save percentage.
Â
Scheel, who also won the NCHC Goalie of the Month in November, is 16-1-2 this season with a school-record 1.61 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.
Â
North Dakota hosts Omaha this coming weekend as the Fighting Hawks return to NCHC play.
