GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team made it six straight wins on Friday evening with a 5-2 victory over Green Bay from Choice Health and Fitness.
With the win, the Fighting Hawks (6-2) have set the program's Division I record for consecutive wins, passing last season's record of five, and moving just five wins away from matching the 2018-19 mark of 11 victories.
It didn't come easy, however, as Green Bay (3-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a pair of wins on the top-two courts in doubles play. The duo of
Chuck Tang and
Johnatan Parat held a 5-4 lead when play was called from the No. 3 position.
UND took control of the match in singles play, notching victories on five of the six courts to claim the 5-2 win.
Andreja Petrovic led the charge from the top spot once again with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph to move to 7-0 this season.
Parat also stayed perfect in the one-on-one matchups with a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 5 court to stretch his record to 7-0 as well and give UND a 2-1 lead in the match. Moments later,
Lukas Buth extended the lead to 3-1 with a 7-5, 6-3 victory from the No. 2 position, but Green Bay answered with a win at the sixth spot to cut the deficit to just 3-2.
The Fighting Hawks polished off the victory with a pair of three-set wins on the middle courts, with
Edmond Aynedjian and
Jake Kuhlman each winning the first and third frames in the winning effort.
North Dakota returns to action on Sunday morning with a Summit League showdown against Omaha at 9 a.m. from Choice Health and Fitness.
