TULSA, Okla. -- After rattling off a program-record seven straight wins, the last thing the University of North Dakota men's tennis team was a long break; however, the Fighting Hawks squashed any doubts of rust with a 5-2 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday in Tulsa.
UND (8-2) took the early 1-0 lead with wins on the top and bottom courts in doubles action. After the Bison were victorious on the No. 2 court,
Andreja Petrovic and
Lukas Buth evened the two-man action at one with a 6-3 triumph before
Chuck Tang and
Lucas Percy gave the Hawks the early point with a 6-4 win from the No. 3 position.
In singles action, it was the No. 5 and 6 courts that helped the visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Percy kept the momentum from doubles play going with a clean sweep on the bottom position before
Johnatan Parat moved to 9-0 in his UND career with a pair of 6-2 victories from the fifth spot to put the Hawks within just one point of winning the match.
Oklahoma Baptist got on the board with a victory on the No. 3 court, but Petrovic kept both his and the team's winning streak alive with a 6-4, 6-3 win on the top court to clinch the match. Buth rallied from a dropped first set with back-to-back wins to earn the fifth point of the day for the green and white.
North Dakota will return to action tomorrow afternoon against Oral Roberts at 2 p.m. from Tulsa.
