GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Junior
Jordan Kawaguchi was announced to the American Hockey Coaches Association All-America West Team, capping a standout junior season that saw him finish in the final three for the Hobey Baker Award. Kawaguchi becomes the first AHCA All-America honoree from North Dakota since Tucker Poolman in 2016-17 and the first on the first team since Brock Boeser did so in UND's last national championship season of 2015-16.
Kawaguchi finished second in the country in points this season, tallying 15 goals and 30 assists to double his career point total. He paced the NCAA in game-winning points with 13, scoring five game-winners and assisting on eight more.
Already the USCHO.com National Player of the Year and the NCHC Forward of the Year, Kawaguchi adds another honor to his breakout junior campaign. He was not part of any preseason prognostications and finished the year atop many key NCAA statistical categories and second in overall total points with 45. His leadership helped North Dakota improve from 18-17-2 in 2018-19 to a 26-5-4 overall mark this past season and the top spot in the NCAA Pairwise at the season's abrupt conclusion.
The Abbotsford, B.C., native has announced that he will be returning to UND next season as has nearly every other potential returnee to give North Dakota a solid nucleus on a roster that produced an NCHC regular season title and an imcredible 18-1 home record.
